FARM MARKET & FIELD STAFF

Summary: We are hiring worker(s) to staff our Barn Store and multiple farmer’s markets/CSA pickups.

Hours and start date: Start date is mid-April. Hours expected range from 10 to 35

There is a lot of flexibility in schedule design for the right candidates. Once we agree on a schedule design, it will be a set schedule (as in, the same shifts each week).

We have shifts available on weekends (both Saturdays and Sundays, approx 6 or 7 am to 2 or 3 pm). We also have shifts on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons/evenings (approx 2pm to approx 8pm)

We would consider candidates who commit to anywhere from 1 to 4 shifts per week. Please see full market schedule below. Load-in and load-out adds an our or so to each side.

These positions are seasonal with the option for year-round work, especially the weekend shifts. We do need a steady commitment to a schedule (ideally for the duration of the season, May-October) but we can make part or full-time schedules work within that.

Compensation: This position is hourly, and will be compensated at $16.50 per hour. Additional benefits include: FREE vegetables and eggs for your household, a 20% employee discount on meats, fruit, and other store items, plus access to the farm for walking, swimming, etc. Access to any Bellair documents (budget, crop plans) is also available.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Strong customer service skills

  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced market environment

  • Ability to consistently lift and carry 60+ lbs repeatedly

  • An enthusiasm for and knowledge about vegetables, farm-raised meats and other local agricultural products

  • An understanding of the importance of food safety

  • A high level of organization and attention to detail: we offer hundreds of products at 6 different weekly sales points and have multiple ways that we sell.

  • An eye for aesthetics (good handwriting a plus!)

  • A valid US driving license and clear driving record

Market Staff Responsibilities:

  • Learn and understand the following:

  • Bellair SOPs around packing procedures and market execution, with special attention to food safety

  • Bellair’s products and pricing (and where to find that info)

  • Bellair’s CSA program and how it works

  • Bellair’s farming practices, including all livestock as well as vegetables

  • Follow SOPs and be attentive to detail to minimize mistakes at markets. Take appropriate notes when things do arise so they can be resolved.

  • Assist our customers and members with farm purchases in a kind, helpful and efficient manner

  • Promote specials, events, or communicate other important information as directed my management

  • Promote a culture of vegetable enthusiasm among our crew and customers by sharing recipe and cooking ideas and tips, gardening stories and more

Tuesdays Trinity Presbyterian 4-6:30 in season

Wednesdays Pen Park 3-7 in season

Thursdays Sojourner's Church 4-6:30 in season

Fridays Bellair Barn 9-5 in season (10-4 off-season)

Saturdays IX 8-12 in season (9-1 off-season)

Saturdays Bellair Barn 9-2 in season (10-2 off-season)
