EGGPLANTS

Italian Varieties

  • Nadia - classic oblong, black/dark purple fruits; largest fruits of the Italian styles we carry

  • Nigral - classic oblong, black/dark purple

  • Traviata - small oblong, black/dark purple

  • Beatrice - round Italian type, light purple

  • Annina - variegated purple

Asian Varietes

  • Asian Delite - Japanese type, bright purple elongated

  • Orient Express - Japanese type, black/dark purple elongated

  • Ping Tung Long - Japanese type, light purple/magenta elongated

  • Kermit - very small green Thai eggplant (golf ball size), firm & seedy

PEPPERS

SWEET/MILD

  • Lunchbox - mini sweet

  • Carmen - bull's horn type, sweet

  • Ace - green to red bell; thin walls

  • Ninja - green to red bell; thick walls; early maturing

  • Islander - purple bell

  • Nassau - Cubanelle, frying pepper (sweet but peppery)

SPICY

  • Bastan - Poblano type, may be used at the green unripe or brown ripe stages; Excellent fried, roasted, or in chile rellenos. (FYI poblanos are called “ancho” when dried.)

  • Havasu - Fresno chili, translucent yellow color to orange to red; great substitute for Jalapeño.

  • Mellow Star - similar to Havasu, medium heat, fresh eating chili

  • Shishito - Japanese frying, aka roulette pepper, great for appetizers

  • Peperone (Calabrian) - from Calabria, Italy; dry for a nice chili pepper

  • Amazing 2 - Korean drying pepper, related to cayenne, can be eaten fresh

  • Red Rocket & Red Flame - standard Cayenne type, great for drying and crafts

  • Caperino - cherry pepper, moderate heat, great to stuff or pickle

  • Highlander - Anaheim pepper, long and skinny, that has some heat, but plenty of sweet fruit to balance it out.

HOT!

  • Impala Serrano - chili, eaten green or red, hotter than Jalapeño

  • Numex - related to Aji Dulce, like a Habanero with just a bit of heat, fruity smoky; yellow wrinkled fruits.

  • Hot Paper Lantern - Habanero type, wrinkled red fruit; HOT, smoky, fruity
