A Late Winter Menu
As the winter drags on, it can feel like the local food options are becoming really scarce. Fortunately, we live in an area with plentiful local food producers and winter farmer's markets. We've decided to pull together a late winter menu featuring local & regional food items. These are some of the classics that we cook week after week during winter. They also feature items from some of our favorite favorite local vendors.
There are still some veggies at the IX Market: Gathered Threads, Little Hat Creek, are some that we've noticed lately. Gathered Threads also has fermented krauts. For fresh greens in Winter, we turn to Schuyler Greens hydroponics (available at Reid's Market and Integral Yoga) or the Asian Market (across from the 29 Bodo's) - they get their greens from a farm outside of DC and they are really high quality! This is also a great time to lean into local breads, cheeses, and dairy: Althea Bread, Little Hat Creek breads, Caramont & Twenty Paces cheeses or fresh milk from Creambrook.
We’ve also restocked the Barn Store with other local favorites: Deep Roots Milling flours, cornmeal, and grits; Henley’s Orchard apples, Bear Bottom Farm sorghum molasses, Back Creek maple syrup, Hungry Hill Honey, Virginia Vinegar Works vinegars. Don’t forget about Bellair Farm jarred salsa, pizza sauce, hot sauce, & pepper jellies! We’re also happy to announce some regional beans, rice and barley from Next Step Produce in Southern Maryland.
