It’s Tomato Planting Time
The first of many tomato starts are ready for your garden! There are technically a couple more weeks where it could frost -- keep an eye on the weather if you plant yours out! If you live in the city limits, you are probably ok to plant, especially if you can cover them at night. Just remember that tomatoes need to stay above 55 degrees F. We've got varieties for every taste and preparation and are happy to give recommendations!

Slicers & Beefsteak
Mountain Fresh Plus - red slicer with very yummy flavor; vigorous growth and high disease resistance
BHN 871 - large, orange slicer, with high yields and improved disease resistance; good flavor, but less acidic than red tomatoes
Defiant - mid-sized red slicer, high yielding and early fruits plus good disease resistance
Skyway - large, red beefsteak with high disease resistance and very yummy flavor
Martha Washington - heirloom-quality pink slicer, can tolerate variable growing conditions
Polbig - hybrid, fruits early, small-medium red fruits
Specialty/Heirloom
Mountain Magic - golf ball sized fruits, bears fruit heavily on compact plants; excellent flavor, late blight resistance; a "salad tomato" of sorts
“Tidy Treats” Patio Tomato - compact plants, grow well in containers (like the name suggests!)
Damsel - Dark pink to red color, large fruit and rich flavor rivals heirloom quality, but much higher disease resistance
Rose - Amish heirloom, dusty-rose color, large meaty fruits
Valley Girl - early-maturing, globe-shaped, continues producing after other varieties
Black Prince - mottled green/red color, large fruit with rich flavor, less cracking than other heirloom varieties
Paste
Quadro - vigorous, mid-size paste variety, could also be used for salsa
Granadero - high yielding red plum tomato, great flavor and thick walls makes it ideal for pasta sauces and salsas, broad disease resistance
Speckled Roman - classic Roma tomato, elegant red fruit with yellow streaks; very low water content & excellent flavor
Cherry
Sungold - specialty, small orange, sweet
Black Cherry - sweet, robust, purple-brown tomatoes
Cherry Bomb - classic cherry tomato flavor and red color. Good resistance to blight
Matt's Wild - very small red fruits with a high sugar content, but lower yields than other varieties
Sunpeach - dark pink color and very sweet like the Sungolds, but less likely to split. Vigorous and high yielding plants
